GNOME drops xorg support!

13 hours ago the merge request to drop X11 support from GNOME was finally merged - I haven't used GNOME properly in a long time so it won't affect me, and I hope it doesn't affect many others who use X11 (or Xenocara) as they don't appreciate the bloat of modern GNOME anyway.

It was inevitable that major projects would stop supporting X11/Xorg as it's technically a dead project now, but there are still a huge amount of people who will be using it on their daily drivers who may well feel excluded by this.

Is this accurate? As far as I can see, this only affects "mutter" - "A Wayland display server and X11 window manager and compositor". I would like to see better evidence that GNOME has fully dropped xorg support already.

        replying to myself:

from the mutter readme: "Mutter is used by, for example, GNOME Shell, the GNOME core user interface, and by Gala, elementary OS's window manager."

so yeah, I guess this is indeed a big nail in the coffin for GNOME on xorg...

Seems so. I wonder how long it will be before xorg is deprecated in non-Linux operating systems, there doesn't seem to be much motivation to maintain these clients - then there's the hardware support from vendors...
